Rating your own content is "legit" according to me.
It is a self assessment of what you think about your content and of course you need to be honest.
Also once you have written a blog or anything for that matter, you know within whether it is a star rated content or not.
Also you need to try to understand from people, who say if its not then what is the rationale behind that view.
